Hands-Free Cell Phone Policy

If your Resident Managers use a vehicle during working hours make sure you have a "hands-free" policy in place. Effective July 1, 2008, Senate Bill 1613 will prohibit California drivers from using hand-held cell phones on any state road or highway. Any time your employee is “on the clock” you are responsible for their actions. I strongly recommend you create a written policy regarding their compliance with this law before July 1st. This covers you in case they are fined or have an accident while driving while not "hands-free". You will have a stronger defense that you were not at fault if you have a written policy in place.
